Liverpool set to peak Champions League record, as they face Villarreal
Liverpool have enjoyed an impressive run so far in the 2021-22 Champions League season. The Merseyside giants secured a 100% record in the group stage to move to the knockout stage.
Moreover, so far, the defining run for the club has been the journeys to Porto, Benfica, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan’s territory in the Champions League this term. Klopp has seen his side come out on top on all five occasions.
Interestingly, the six times European Champions have also scored at least two goals in each of those matches. A European record is theirs for the taking against Villarreal this week.
Should Liverpool advance to the final by winning the second leg, it will mark new feat in the competition’s records. A 100% streak away from home in the competition for the most games in a single campaign is up for grab for the Reds.
Even though Villarreal endured a poor night at Anfield last week, Klopp will not be taking Villarreal lightly. Previously, two European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Juventus have failed to win on Villarreal’s turf so far this season.
