Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders and development coach Vitor Matos were seen scouting at the AXA training Centre.

The U-23 Reds recently defeated the U-23 Man Utd side by 3-1 in the Premier League 2 match.

The Reds are preparing for their upcoming game against Burnley in the Lancashire FA senior cup final on Wednesday.

Pep Lijnders spotted scouting the U-23 players

Pep Lijnders and development coach Vitor Matos were watching the U-23 lads closely at the AXA training centre.

Over years there have been several lads from the team who have gone on to represent the first team.

U-23 coach Barry Lewtas was also seen with the two First-team coaches.

In an interview with Barry Lewtas, he went on to say,

Pep and Vitor were here today. If they need anyone, they’re ready to go.

He further said that his players would be “stand by to the first team” in the Pre-season and the season throughout.

Pre-Season opportunity for the U-23 players

The Liverpool U-23 players are almost at the top of their games. They would be eager to show it on the big stage whenever called upon.

But first, the first team Pre Season comes, wherein they’ll have the opportunity to help with the senior players and gain experience.

When asked about the players’ involvement in Pre Season Barry Lewtas had this to say,

We’ll have to wait and see (if any are needed for pre-season). It’s not just a numbers game, the manager and coaching staff, they want to see the kids.

Maybe there will be an extra few seats on the flights. There is a real drive to get the young lads around the first team and us to try and integrate a style of play that suits that.

The young Reds definitely are capable to shine under the management of Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool first team and soon can get that breakthrough.

Barry Lewtas was also in praise of Rhys Williams and Leighton Clarkson as they’ve had an impressive season in the second half.

Barry claimed,

They’re (Williams and Clarkson) in a really good place. They’ve had game-time. Fair play to Rhys, he trains with the first team every day. I know he pesters Vitor because he wants to play in the games as well.

Rhys and Leighton, I think have done ever so well in the second half of the season. (After spending the first half on loan to Swansea and Blackburn respectively).

Pep Lijnders would definitely have some players on the back of his mind as the season nears its end.

Scouting these players for the young team works perfectly for both, the players and the club as they’re one of their own only.

What could be a headache for Klopp is the segregation of senior players ahead of the upcoming season.

With no news yet on key players’ contracts yet, it will surely be an interesting summer ahead for Liverpool.
