Liverpool are understood to be ‘pressing ahead’ in their search for ‘at least one more’ midfield player signing this summer.

Ian Doyle released the update this morning ahead of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s expected departures from the club.

Echo’s chief Liverpool FC writer reported about the situation.

“Despite the subsequent wait, the Reds are not anticipating any issues with the transfer and are pressing ahead with their plans to recruit at least one more midfielder ahead of the Premier League opener at Chelsea on August 13.”

There have been reports that there is a medical due to take place for the skipper, Jordan Henderson. This comes after the news of the clubs agreeing on the £12m fee for his transfer.

Moreover, the Reds have agreed upon a £40m fee for Fabinho from the Saudi side, Al-Ittihad. This means that Klopp would be losing his two experienced midfielders this summer, right after losing Milner.

Liverpool and Klopp’s clear priority in signing a midfield player

After losing their most experienced player in the squad, the Reds now need proper reinforcements.

That said, if Liverpool only plans on signing one more midfielder this summer, they simply must put all their eggs in the soon-to-be-vacant number 6 role.

If we are speaking quality-wise, then Klopp needs to sign someone Rodri-esque. We need a holding midfielder who is capable of scoring, defending, and being confident on the ball.

That being said, there should be an emphasis on a proper no-nonsense holding midfielder who is not afraid of playing rough.

Klopp simply can’t allow the level of pressure Virgil van Dijk and Co. were under last term. Amid a drop in performance levels of epic proportions from our number 3, to leak into the upcoming campaign.

Depending on how the manager envisions this side playing with the new box formation, it’s essential to land a target capable of competently shielding the backline.
