Liverpool sold their captain, Jordan Henderson to Saudi side, Al-Ettifaq this summer, and reports say that they have a sell-on clause included.
Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to leave the club?
The Reds completed a deal to sell their former captain to the Saudi Arabian side for £12M just last summer. However, it is understood that they inserted a healthy sell-on clause into his deal. This means that the Reds would make money if the player is sold by the Saudi side.
As per talkSPORT, Al-Ettifaq are not willing to sell their captain or even send him out on loan. But they would surely be willing to sell the Englishman if there was a lucrative offer.
This would mean selling Henderson for a sizeable profit or allowing him to leave on loan with his £8million-a-year wages – tax free – covered in full and a substantial loan fee.
As a result, any move to sign Henderson permanently would cost a potential suitor upwards of £25million. The midfielder is desperate to return to Europe as he aims to secure a place in England’s Euro squad.
Moreover, his lifestyle and the country’s climate are also said to be factors in his decision of wanting to leave. Al Ettifaq are currently sat in eighth position in the Saudi Pro League after winning just six of their 19 fixtures so far.
Meanwhile, Henderson has been offered to Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus. Also, he has been virtually offered to every club in the Premier League.
With his future up in the air, Henderson is due for face to face talks with Al-Ettifaq when he returns to training next week following their mid-season break. With their next fixture not anytime soon, his future could be tied up before turning up for Steven Gerrard’s side again.
