Despite Anthony Gordon’s connections to Everton, Liverpool’s move to inquire about the winger for Newcastle United was unexpected.
Gordon, who cost approximately £45 million to transfer from Everton to Newcastle in January 2023, had a slow start before settling into a groove in the 2023–2024 Premier League season where he finished with 11 goals and 10 assists in 35 games.
Despite receiving little playing time his outstanding performance earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championship.
The Reds’ Concern About Wingers
Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle winger Gordon is related to concerns about the futures of two of their current players Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
Gordon is a player with a lot of potential according to Liverpool scouts and analysts and new head coach Arne Slot is keen to bolster the team’s attack.
