With deadline day approaching fast, Liverpool are eyeing one more addition in form of a midfielder to their squad after being hit by the massive injury list.

Liverpool kick-started their campaign with a thumping 9-0 win over Bournemouth. The statement win came after the Reds were criticized for their slow start to the season.

However, Liverpool does need an addition to their squad in the form of a midfielder. The Merseysiders are actively looking for the midfielder and are linked with many targets.

There were many reports of Liverpool eyeing Frankie de Jong. However, the reports of CBS Sports suggest the Anfield club isn’t interested in the Dutchman and exploring other options

Interestingly, there are reports of Liverpool eyeing a midfielder playing in the Scottish Championship for Celtic.

Liverpool to battle for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley

The 21-year-old highly rated midfielder has been impressive since his arrival from League One side MK Dons to Celtic. O’Riley arrived in January for only £1.5 million and has established himself among the regulars under coach Ange Postecoglou.

The 6ft 2in midfielder has four goals and five assists in 25 appearances for the Glaswegian giants across all competitions.

According to ESPN, his impressive show at the Hoopers are speculating about a potential £20 million transfer to the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

However, Manchester United have already signed midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid and are prioritizing Antony from Ajax.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed last week that the club is exploring targets in the transfer market to recruit a new midfielder. Klopp has limited options in midfield following injuries to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, and Naby Keita.

O’Riley’s claim over his future

However, O’Riley has responded to the claims that there is ‘a lot’ of interest in him and several clubs have enquired about him.

Speaking to a Danish outlet Bold, O’Riley said:

While it’s great to know there’s a lot of interest in me, I only have one thing in mind and that’s to do well for Celtic.‎ I have no plans to leave Celtic, so if nothing happens, nothing happens, and that’s fine.

Moreover, he went further ahead as he posted himself in a Hoops’ shirt and tagged the club’s official Twitter account, accompanied by a green heart.

O’Riley is still young with glimpses of developing into a fantastic player. The Denmark Under-21 midfielder isn’t still a finished article yet and the question remains is he Premier League ready?
