Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has signed a new 5-year contract with the club. And with the defender extending his stay, manager Klopp has spoken about players’ abilities and his future.
Joe Gomez joined Liverpool back in 2015. Before that, he was playing for Charlton. And Liverpool bought him for a fee of £3.5 million.
The defender has now extended his stay till 2027.
Despite making 142 appearances for Liverpool, Gomez has experienced severe knee and ankle problems. But he believes he has time to learn and that his best years are ahead of him.
The Defender along with Van Dijk, Matip, and Konate form the most feared Centre-backs in the world.
And with him signing a new deal, Liverpool will have a formidable backline as they already have arguably the best fullback duo in EPL history.
After James Milner and Mohamed Salah, the center-back became the third player to agree to a new deal this summer when he signed a five-year agreement on Thursday.
Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay have all committed to long-term commitments. And Klopp earlier this year also signed a contract pledging his loyalty to the team through the year 2026.
Klopp on Joe Gomez signing a new contract
Klopp told the club’s official website:
“Joe is an outstanding talent. He is also an outstanding defender and an outstanding human being.
He has so many qualities, I could talk about them all day. So knowing that he will continue his journey with us is a massive boost – one that everyone who loves Liverpool FC and cares about its present and future should be unbelievably happy about.
One of the many wonderful things about Joe is he has experience and youth – that’s not a bad combination. He has not long turned 25 but he was at the club before I was and I think after Hendo and Millie he is our longest-serving player. Incredible.
But the best thing of all is that his best years are still to come and I could not be happier that this will happen with us.”
A major accomplishment for Gomez occurred around this time last year when he overcame a protracted knee injury to play alongside Virgil van Dijk in a preseason friendly.
Fast-forward The 25-year-old was a member of the first group to return to the AXA Training Center after a 12-month absence. And he has since participated in running exercises, small-sided games, and gym work.
In the first preseason friendly on Tuesday against Man United, he is expected to start. And Klopp has been impressed with his recent conditioning.
He was talking about his incredible physical shape. Klopp also believes a good pre-season will do a lot of good to the defender. And If everything works out well, then there’s no stopping him.
