Phil Thompson, a Liverpool great, has praised Ibrahima Konate after the defender put up a strong performance for the Reds on Wednesday night.

Liverpool summer signing Ibrahima Konate has been impressive with his recent performance against Benfica.

The 22-year-old has impressed since arriving in Liverpool, and so far made sure he grasps opportunities when called upon and has been “solid” in whatever games he has played.

Ibrahima Konate ‘impresses’ at Liverpool

Konate took star defender Virgil Van Dijk’s spot in the Liverpool starting XI against Benfica at home. As the latter took a sit on the bench.

The Frenchman who signed last summer has played only 21 games this season, but his performances are praise-worthy.

The player has scored 2 goals in two games against Benfica making sure Liverpool qualifies for the semis.

Liverpool Legend Phil Thompson had gone on to describe the player as an absolute dream, which many would agree. As manager Klopp started him over regular Center-back Virgil Van Dijk, Thompson commented,

Konate is looking like an absolute dream,”.He’s a wonderful player, so there are no problems making these changes.

It would be interesting to see if Ibrahima Konate remains in the playing XI for the upcoming game against City. However, Van Dijk looks destined to get his place back, Konate could ‘probably start’ in place of Joel Matip.

The player has also been labeled ‘physically dominant’

Former Arsenal player and current commentator Martin Keown expressed his pleasure in Konate’s performance and especially his goal.

In a recent interview with BT Sport, he went on to say,

That’s an absolute brilliant header,

It looks almost like he was disinterested and suddenly changes gear and attacks it at the highest point.

Look at that. Climbs higher than everyone else.

He’s just physically dominant, soars over the top of his opponents.

With plaudits from all around, the young player has only to grow more and more, and build his position in the team.

Konate surely could be the successor of Virgil van Dijk subsequently, if he continues with the same ‘impressive’ performances at the Anfield club.
