As the pre-season will be starting in a couple of weeks, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will be extending his contract and will continue his stay at Anfield.

Last season, there were many choices for Jurgen Klopp for the centre-half position but the main question was who will be playing beside Virgil van Dijk, who is obviously the first choice centre-half for the Reds.

Thus, the competition for the centre-half position was mainly between Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate. But later in the season, Konate showed his value and grabbed the opportunity whenever he was asked to do the job. Moreover, the Frenchman also scored against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League. While the 23-year-old was also chosen over Matip in the UCL final against Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, there were questions rising for Joe Gomez as he was not getting enough game time. As a result of which, he was also dropped from the England national team. However, later in the season, the 25-year-old played as a right-back instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was out concerning an injury.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to extend his say at Anfield by signing a contract extension?

According to The Telegraph, Joe Gomez will be signing a new contract with the Reds in the pre-season which will be putting an end to the talks about his future.

Furthermore, Joe Gomez missed most of the matches due to injuries that he faced in 2021. Thus, the England international could only play 8 matches in the Premier League. While Joe made 7 appearances in the Champions League last season and now he will be looking forward to spend more time on the field.

The 25-year-old will be the third or the fourth choice centre-back for the Merseyside club. While it will be based on many things such as the performance of the players, Jurgen Klopp’s style of play and of course fitness of any other defender in the squad.

Last season, Gomez played as a right-back for Arnold because the Reds did not had any other options. With Neco Williams out on loan, Trent’s position remained vacant. But now, after signing Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen, the Reds will have enough options for the upcoming season. While Gomez could be seen making frequent appearances in the domestic cup matches.
