After conquering Europa League last year, Villarreal are through to the Semi-final of the Champions League where they could face Liverpool.

Villarreal are into the semi-finals of the Champions League competition for the first time since 2006. The yellow submarine will play either Liverpool or Benfica in the semis.

Unai Emery’s side defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate in the Quaterfinal tie to book a spot in the semis. Having carrying a shocking disadvantage of 1 goal from the first leg, the Bavarians lost the tie when 88th-minute equaliser from Samuel Chukwueze after Lewandowski’s 52th minute strike.

Earlier in the competition, the Spanish side also sent Italian giants Juventus out of the competition in the Round of 16. And now, they knocked out another heavyweights Bayern Munich.

Unai Emery’s Villarreal soaked up everything Bayern threw at their defence, aside from Lewandowski’s strike early in the second half.

Moreover, the attention will turn on to Villarreal’s potential semi-final opponents Liverpool.

The Reds are currently holding a 2 goals cusion in their tie against Benfica with a scoreline of 3-1. Benfica now travel to the Merseysider’s fortress to battle it out for the semis spot.
