Liverpool could play against Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the UCL semi-final

After conquering Europa League last year, Villarreal are through to the Semi-final of the Champions League where they could face Liverpool.

Villarreal are into the semi-finals of the Champions League competition for the first time since 2006. The yellow submarine will play either Liverpool or Benfica in the semis.

Unai Emery’s side defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate in the Quaterfinal tie to book a spot in the semis. Having carrying a shocking disadvantage of 1 goal from the first leg, the Bavarians lost the tie when 88th-minute equaliser from Samuel Chukwueze after Lewandowski’s 52th minute strike.

Earlier in the competition, the Spanish side also sent Italian giants Juventus out of the competition in the Round of 16. And now, they knocked out another heavyweights Bayern Munich.

Unai Emery’s Villarreal soaked up everything Bayern threw at their defence, aside from Lewandowski’s strike early in the second half.

Simply, an impressive Villarreal’s journey in the Champions League, we have to take a bow at their head coach Unai Emery. It’s all about Unai Emery master class.

Moreover, the attention will turn on to Villarreal’s potential semi-final opponents Liverpool.

The Reds are currently holding a 2 goals cusion in their tie against Benfica with a scoreline of 3-1. Benfica now travel to the Merseysider’s fortress to battle it out for the semis spot.

Liverpool against Villarreal in the semi-finals?

Liverpool carry a commanding lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Benfica. The Reds are expected to reach their third semi-final in last five seasons of the competition.

While interestingly, some section of fans are even dreaming of Liverpool’s appearance in the competition’s final. Following the Spanish side’s win over Bayern, Liverpool fans have expressed their immense pleasure for their potential opponent in the semi-finals.

But to be honest, following Bayern Munich’s exit, Liverpool have a potential route to the Champions League final.

Klopp’s men are ready to play the Eagles on Wednesday night at Anfield for the 2nd leg with a concrete lead of 3-1. Following Tuesday night’s drama at Allianz Arena, now Liverpool fans are hoping for no drama at Anfield, as Klopp will be expecting to get the job done and set a semi-final date with Mr. Good Ebening, Unai Emery.

But Liverpool fans out their celebrating already, Don’t celebrate too early! as the English proverb say There’s many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip. It implies even if a good outcome is set to come, but things can still go wrong.
