Mike Gordon has been chosen by FSG to assist with the sale of Liverpool as they search for a buyer.

FSG and Liverpool looking for the right buyer

Mike Gordon is one of the best to accomplish such a task. It is if Fenway Sports Group wants to have the most impact with the least amount of hassle while looking into selling Liverpool FC so they might have taken their first step to handover the ownership.

Given Gordon’s low profile during his tenure at Liverpool, many fans probably wouldn’t be able to identify the FSG president in a lineup. When the American walked quietly into a post-match mixed zone following a 4-0 victory over Southampton in February 2020, many of the gathering reporters were unable to identify maybe the most significant guy at Anfield.

FSG taking some measures

The Milwaukee native, as well as FSG as a whole, would like it to be just that way. Club chairman Tom Werner and the main owner John W Henry should be easily recognizable. And more receptive to the occasional media request, Gordon’s labor behind the scenes is what keeps the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby and Melwood before it running well on a daily basis.

In December 2020, Gordon had flown to Merseyside to finalize a contract extension with Klopp. He had done it with the intention of being as anonymous as he could. Nevertheless, after his private plane veered off the runway at the city’s John Lennon Airport, Liverpool were compelled to provide an update on its owner’s health and safety.

Gordon was the one to inform other FSG members about Jurgen Klopp’s management skills as a free agent. After convincing Klopp to end a planned year-long sabbatical after seven largely successful years with Borussia Dortmund, the FSG chief contacted him to set up a meeting in the New York offices of law firm Shearman and Sterling when it became clear that Brendan Rodgers’ time at Anfield had come to an end.

So now we know who Mike Gordon is and we might be on our way to taking a baby step to welcome the new owners.
