Jurgen Klopp has downplayed concerns about Ryan Gravenberch‘s injury, asserting that the midfielder’s issue during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over LASK Linz in the UEFA Europa League was merely a cramp, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Gravenberch, the new summer signing, earned his first full start for Liverpool on Thursday night but had to leave the game due to injury during the latter stages of the Europa League opener.
Despite his early exit, the 21-year-old made a significant impression in midfield, providing an excellent assist for Luis Diaz’s goal, which put Liverpool in the lead.
The Dutchman managed to play for 75 minutes before being substituted for Mohamed Salah, who calmly secured the victory with a goal.
Jurgen Klopp explains Ryan Gravenberch’s substitution
Klopp, speaking after the match, explained that Gravenberch’s cramping was understandable, considering it was his first start in a while, having mostly served as a substitute for Bayern Munich last season.
“(He played) very good, he told me he had cramp so that makes sense,”
The German told TNT Sports as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“It was his first start for a while I think and he did really well. For a long time he was the best player on the pitch and in the first-half frustration grew a little bit and you saw him getting lost a little bit, you know, “where is he?
‘But that’s normal these things happen but he stayed in the game as long as he could and had really good moments, set up a good goal for Luis Diaz and for not knowing a lot about his team-mates it looked pretty tuned.”
This news will undoubtedly bring relief to Liverpool fans who were eager to see Gravenberch in action after his transfer from Bayern Munich on the deadline day.
He signed a long-term contract with the Reds after spending just one season in the Bundesliga.
The Dutch U-21 international made his debut for Liverpool the previous Saturday during their 3-1 Premier League win over Wolves.
Now, he is expected to be in contention for a starting spot in his first home match against West Ham.
Klopp might also see the return of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Thiago Alcantara ahead of their upcoming match in week six against West Ham United.
