Liverpool FC began their pre-season with a 4-0 setback against their arch-rivals Manchester United. While the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp says “We cannot judge our pre-season because of one game”, in doing so he also provided major injury updates for key players in the pre-match press conference for the Crystal Palace game.

The Red half of the Merseyside now has a reason to worry. As Klopp revealed that the Portugues forward has suffered a fresh setback while recovering from his hamstring injury.

On the club’s official website the German said

“Diogo is unlucky.

Diogo was not involved [against Manchester United] because of an injury he got at the end of his season.

He trained yesterday fully and got injured again, so that’s really not cool, but we have to wait for the results. He had further assessment this morning, so we have to see.”

The Reds boss believes that the Portugal forward has made his injury worse, which he first experienced when playing for his country last month.

While Klopp also informed that the fresh setback is also in the “same region”. Thus, after missing the initial game of the pre-season, the Liverpool forward will be aiming to get back to full fitness before the season starts.

However, how long will Jota miss the games is yet to be known. But one thing is certain, Diogo will surely miss tomorrow’s clash against Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool manager was also concerned about Alisson Becker.

The 55-year-old is also doubtful about the Brazilian’s availability for the Palace fixture. Klopp said

“Ali was not 100 per cent. He finished the session earlier, was doing the warming up and felt something so now there we have to wait as well. I think pretty much all the others are fine, so that’s it.”

It is quite clear that Klopp is going to rotate a lot of players in the pre-season-friendly games. One of the reasons could be to find the right combination. With the addition of Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho in the adding department, Jurgen will be looking to test the best pairing in the final third.

Klopp utilised a total of 32 players, with no outfielder playing for longer than 30 minutes during the first pre-season friendly against United.

Of his selection plans for the meeting with Palace, Klopp stated:

“Some might get 45 minutes tomorrow, we have to see, but again it’s the period of the year where we have to be really careful with different things. “

It will be interesting to see what front line will Klopp use on Thursday against Crystal Palace.
