Virgil van Dijk & Roberto Firmino

According to reports, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino have resumed exercising to speed up their individual recoveries from their respective injuries. Given how poorly Liverpool are performing without their star defender, this is a huge relief.

The Reds are now fighting an uphill battle to try to make the Champions League after failing to live up to the high standards established by previous seasons. Would the Dutchman and the Brazilian’s comeback help the team play better?

Van Dijk and Firmino return to training

The Reds are now in ninth position in the Premier League standings, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United despite having a game in hand. As a result of a lot of injuries, they were also ousted from the FA Cup last weekend after losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion.

While Arthur Melo has also experienced injury issues since joining on loan from Juventus last summer, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are also out with calf and knee issues, respectively. Liverpool just suffered another setback with regard to injuries after learning that Ibrahima Konate would miss the next four games due to a hamstring injury,

Although Van Dijk and Firmino have also seen the doctor, The Mirror reports that the duo has resumed training.

A major boost for Klopp and the Reds

The hamstring injury that prompted the Netherlands international to leave Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Brentford at halftime on January 2 has kept him out of play. Due to a calf injury, Firmino hasn’t played for Jurgen Klopp’s team since the World Cup break.

The most recent information will undoubtedly encourage Klopp and his team, even though the pair is still exercising apart from the rest of the team. Van Dijk and Firmino are not anticipated to play in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ home Premier League matchup on Saturday.

Liverpool will be hopeful that the two can make it back in time for a crucial stretch of games, starting with the Merseyside Derby the following week. Firmino is also close to agreeing to a new contract because his old one is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign. A two-year extension till June 2025 is reportedly close to being agreed upon by the Brazilian.
