Jamie Carragher responds to Liverpool News regarding John Barnes

Jamie Carragher has responded to the news that John Barnes has been named a club ambassador after Liverpool announced it on Twitter. The Reds have chosen to use the 59-year-old to represent them at club events abroad as well as in England.

Barnes now joins Ian Rush as a recognized representative of Liverpool. Carragher appears to have given his approval for the choice because he called the news “fantastic” in a tweet on his official Twitter account.

Barnes:

“I loved representing LFC as a player and I’m relishing the prospect of wearing the beloved Liver bird crest on my chest once again – albeit on a suit this time around.”

The Reds value their roots

Barnes has received the honor after assisting Liverpool in the victories of four Community Shields, two FA Cups, two League Cups, and two league championships. Barnes is still regarded as one of the best players in the history of the club after making 407 appearances for the Reds and scoring 108 goals.

It’s always great to see a club legend making a return to Anfield in such a manner after being well-known as a player. Barnes was one of the most dynamic attackers to ever don the red jersey. And he has consistently demonstrated after his retirement that he would do a fantastic job representing Liverpool. As Carragher notes, Liverpool have made a “great” choice in this situation.

The fans and other club legends are very happy with the decision. Unlike, some other clubs in Premier League, the Scousers value their club legends.

They won the League championship in Barnes’ first season at Liverpool, going unbeaten in their first 29 games. Only John Aldridge scored more league goals in Barnes’ first season with Liverpool. The final of just two league losses that year came on April 2 against Nottingham Forest. That was not even all of his testament. Liverpool making this choice is just ‘fantastic’.
