Naby Keita could be the next Liverpool star to secure a new deal at Liverpool, confirms journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 27-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of next season.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside via his column on Substack, the journalist says:

One of the next players to sign a new contract at Liverpool may be Naby Keita,

There have been preliminary negotiations with his representatives, but they are not yet at the final stage.

Jota was a priority, after bringing in Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Liverpool wanted to ensure him he was still a valued member of the squad.

Keita is one of the three midfielders alongside James Milner and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain who are into the final year last year of their Liverpool contracts.

The midfielder has been battling injuries and tough competition. The Guinea International has featured 116 times for Liverpool FC since arriving on Merseyside in 2018.

In spite of his battle, Liverpool boss Klopp still counts on Keita handing him starts in the FA Cup and EFL Cup Finals.

With some of Liverpool’s midfield now entering their thirties, extending Keita’s stay should be high on Jurgen Klopp’s priority list.

Meanwhile, the Premier League is just 3 days away to knock on the doors of the Reds fans. And Liverpool will certainly miss some key players in their season-opener as they recover from their respective injuries.
