Liverpool player ratings vs Cardiff

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Caoimhin Kelleher (GK) – 6.5/10

The young goalkeeper had a slight scare when he came out to clear the ball but ended up fouling Cardiff forward Mark Harris. Luckily, it did not turn out to be a red card. Other than that as usual, he was pretty solid at the back and would have been disappointed to concede.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 7/10

Even though his delivery from set-pieces wasn’t up to mark in the first half, he still had a good game. The 23-year old assisted Jota’s opener and also gave 3 key passes.

Ibrahima Konate (CB) – 6/10

Not the greatest of showing from the Frenchman. He was turned by Mark Harris easily and did not have a great ball distribution (making 1 out of 5 long passes). He also did not win a single tackle.

Virgil Van Dijk(CB) – 7.5/10

Not only did he deal with everything that came his way with a lot of ease, his ball distribution was also on point. He completed the most passes in the game(121) and played 9 successful long balls. He also had 11 recoveries and played one key pass.

Konstantinos Tsimikas (LB) – 7/10

The 25-year-old had a pretty good game. He was exciting to watch with the ball and made some nice runs. He won the most duels in the game(7) and almost assisted Jota for a goal.

Midfielders

Jordan Henderson (CM) – 6.5/10

The captain was regularly involved in the game and anchored the midfield well. Nothing spectacular from the 31-year-old kept things simple and moving.

Naby Keita (CM) – 6/10

First match back after an impressive showing for his country in the AFCON, the Guinean had an average game. Helped in creating two chances in the first half and even played one key pass. He certainly had a few good ideas but could not execute them properly.

Curtis Jones CM – 6/10

A few nice touches and some good moments, but all in all he failed to make a clear impact on the game. Was later substituted for Luis Diaz’s debut.

Forwards

Takumi Minamino (RW) – 7.5/10

The 27-year-old, linked with a move away from Anfield, had a pretty good game. Not only did he link up well with Jota, but also scored from his pass. He was also able to make a good chance for Jones.

Roberto Firmino (ST) – 7/10

Interchanged possession with teammates quite well and showed versatility in the second half by playing a role deeper than usual. Surprisingly, the striker also had the most tackles in the match(2).

Diogo Jota (LW)- 8/10

The Portuguese had a pretty good showing against Cardiff. His positioning was very good and was able to find a lot of space for himself. Not only scored a neat goal but also assisted Minamino.

Substitutes

Harvey Elliott (CM) – 8/10

Playing his first game after returning from injury, the youngster had an instant impact. Not only did he unsettle the opposition but also scored a goal.

Luis Diaz (LW) – 7/10

An exciting cameo from the man who is been called Sadio Mane’s replacement. Played an important part in setting up Minamino’s goal.

James Milner (CM) – 6/10

Did not really have a great impact on the game, however did adequately what was required of him.

Andrew Robertson (LW) – 7/10

An interesting cameo from the Scotsman. Came on and assisted Elliott’s goal from the left.

Thiago Alcantara (CM) – 6/10

Coming back from an injury, he looked rusty on the ball. Gave away the ball for Cardiff’s goal.
