Michael Edwards was Liverpool‘s Sporting Director for six years after leaving the club recently and according to reports, now Edwards has rejected to offer his services to Chelsea.

Todd Boehly is the Blues’ new owner. And he is currently serving as the club’s temporary sporting director. It is only for a while it looked for a permanent replacement.

According to rumours, Edwards was their top choice for the position. But it now appears like the Blues may need to look at other candidates.

Michael Edwards denies being the new sporting director of Chelsea Football Club

David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that the former Reds sports director has fallen to Chelsea’s advances. It’s because he has told them of his decision to take a break from football.

Edwards said in November of last year that he would be departing Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign. And the reason being, his intention was to take a vacation.

But, according to a recent Times report, it didn’t stop the Blues from trying to recruit him back into the workforce. And Chelsea reportedly made “a solid case” for him to work as the club’s sporting director.

However, Ornstein’s account would imply that Edwards is continuing with his original strategy, which will delight Liverpool supporters.

He made a real difference at Anfield. In addition to Jurgen Klopp’s efforts on the field, it was his involvement in transfers that rebuilt Liverpool to its former grandeur.

They had no clear strategy for years. Therefore, Liverpool’s player recruitment was not that good.

Edwards previously was the club’s technical director and had been hired by Klopp a year earlier. And he was then formally made sports director.

His biggest acquisitions were players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson. And they have all been crucial to Liverpool’s recent success.

It is unclear where he will go next, although, for the time being, it appears that a transfer to Chelsea is unlikely. Phew!
