Having played poorly against Arsenal in the first leg, Liverpool knew they had to perform better in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final, let’s have a look at the match highlights.

Even though Liverpool started the game poorly, they were able to recover quickly. For the first nineteen minutes or so, Arsenal dominated the game.

In the fifth minute, Arsenal got a free kick at the edge of the box. Lacazette lined it up and pulled the trigger, only for Kelleher to make a brilliant save.

Trent Alexander-Arnold playing only his third game since testing positive struggled to keep up with Martinelli.

Then in the nineteenth minute, everything changed. Diogo Jota’s mishit effort, against the run of play, ends up past Aaron Ramsdale. Jota gives Liverpool the lead and keeps his record against Arsenal going.

In the twenty-eighth minute, Martinelli gets a golden opportunity after being through on goal. However, Fabinho with a spectacular challenge dispossesses him.

Despite Liverpool’s lead, Arsenal continues to be the better team. A midfield battle ensues for the rest of the first half.

Arsenal don’t make any changes as Klopp replaces the error-prone Joel Matip for Ibrahim Konate.

The second half starts really well for Arsenal, with Lacazette getting the best chance of the game. A brilliant ball by Lokonga picks him out in front of the goal all alone, but he skies it.

Two minutes later, Kaide Gordon gets a similar chance after being picked out by Diogo Jota. But the youngster, just like Lacazette, skies it over.

Second-half Liverpool have come out stronger.

In the seventy-seventh minute, Diogo Jota flicks Ramsdale to give Liverpool the two-goal lead. Martinelli gets a good chance, but it comes to nothing. The game ends with Thomas Partey being sent off.
