Divock Origi contract situation

Liverpool forward Divock Origi has only six months remaining in his current contract. Will he stay or leave the Reds this January, is the question yet to be answered.

The 26-year-old Belgium international came to Anfield on 29th July 2014 on a five-year contract. In his first five-year spell, Origi was loaned out for two seasons, Lille and VFL Wolfsburg. He scored his first goal for the Reds which eventually led to a hat-trick against Southampton in a 6 – 1 away win in the league cup quarter-finals.

Divock Origi signed another long-term contract with the reds in 2019. In his eight seasons as a Liverpool player, he played 6 seasons at Anfield. In these six seasons, he made 167 appearances and scored 40 goals and 16 assists for the Reds.

Will Divock Origi stay or leave in the current transfer window?

Divock Origi is a name that Liverpool fans never forget as he has scored some very important and crucial goals for the club under Jurgen Klopp. He also scored some famous goals in the Merseyside derby against Everton. Origi was down in the pecking order due to Salah, Firmino, Mane, Jota who are all his competition for the place in the starting lineup.

In the 2020/21 season, Origi scored only one goal in 17 appearances. Moreover this season he has scored 5 goals and 2 assists in 10 appearances. Origi was part of the team which lifted the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World cup, and the Premier League title.

Liverpool Football Club has no interest in letting Origi leave the club. Moreover, with Salah and Mane playing in AFCON, Firmino is in isolation due to being tested positive for Covid. The Reds need Origi now in the starting lineup. Even the Belgian has shown no interest in leaving the club. His current contract may extend to 2023 if he reaches a certain number of premier league starts this season.

It is reported in Italy that Lazio, Juventus, and AC Milan are all interested in getting his signature as he is available for pre-contract. With the option of his contract extending at the end of the season. It is not sure will they sign him this month in pre-contract terms. Newcastle United are also willing to sign the forward this January.

Moreover, this month Liverpool need their players to stand strong as this month has become very crucial in bringing silverware to Anfield. Meanwhile, Liverpool fans will be hoping that Divock Origi will still be playing as a Red this season.
