Robertson will face Real Madrid in a Champions League final for the second time. He’s also confessed something about the Spanish giants.

Robertson Confessing about playing his 2nd final against Real Madrid

Andy Robertson says Liverpool aims “to get one over” on Real Madrid when the two teams meet again in the Champions League final.

The European final, which will be in Paris on May 28, will be Jurgen Klopp’s third. The first one is the Reds losing 3-1 in Kyiv in 2018. Following two errors from goalkeeper Loris Karius on either side of a miraculous goal from Gareth Bale.

Liverpool, again lost to Los Blancos in the Champions League quarter-finals last season. The Scot believes the Spaniards are entitled to a win against Klopp’s side, considering their previous history.

Robbo confessed:

Look, obviously the final against Madrid didn’t go as we wanted it to and they put us out last season as well. So since I’ve been here we’ve not managed to get one over on Real Madrid,

They’ve knocked us out and they have beaten us in the final. So it’d be nice to play them again and try and get one over on them because we’ve not managed it. But when it comes to cup finals you want to win them all regardless. It doesn’t really matter who you play. You want to win the trophy and that’s my mindset, but it’s also Real Madrid’s mindset. So it’ll be an incredibly difficult game but we’ve got big Premier League games to focus on first and then we’ll have a week to focus on that game.

We’ve shown that we know how to win trophies. We’ve stood tall, put in good performances, dug deep when it matters. And we’re delighted to obviously have the two trophies in the bag. That’s incredible and we’re still fighting for the Premier League. It’s out of our hands but we’ll obviously fight for the Champions League when the time comes to it.

The Final Battle

Liverpool travels to Southampton on Tuesday evening to keep the pressure on league leaders, Manchester City. While the Sky Blues drew 2-2 with West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday to ensure the title fight goes to the last day on May 22.

The Reds will try to minimize the gap to 1 point with a win at St Mary’s over Pep Guardiola’s City and will go into the last round of fixtures on Sunday when Liverpool hosts Wolves and City hosts Aston Villa.

After being withdrawn as precautionary during the penalty shootout win against Chelsea at the weekend, the Reds are concerned about Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s fitness for the game.

It will be Liverpool’s 61st game of a demanding season. Still, Robertson is confident that everyone will be ready for the final three games. Claiming that the enormity of the European Cup final means fatigue will not be an issue in Paris.

With Fabinho and hopefully Salah and Van Dijk back, Liverpool would be hoping to match level with AC Milan and win their 7th European title.
