Liverpool midfielder makes surprise transfer plea over possible replacement

Wataru Endo, who joined Liverpool from VfB Stuttgart last summer for £16.2 million, has made a surprising plea for the club to sign a new defensive midfielder.

Despite establishing himself as a key player with 43 appearances last season, Endo believes the Reds need more strength in the defensive midfield position.

A Season of Challenges and Adaptation for Wataru Endo

Endo’s first season at Liverpool saw him step up in the absence of other key players. With Stefan Bajcetic injured for much of the season, and Alexis Mac Allister playing deeper than usual, Endo had to fill crucial gaps.

The Japan captain started 34 matches and made 29 Premier League appearances, but the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia left the squad light in defensive midfield.

In an interview with ABEMA Sports Time (as quoted by MSN), Endo admitted that Liverpool needs reinforcements.

“I think it would be better to get the number six midfielder. We have a young Spanish player [Bajcetic], but it’s still unclear if he will be able to contribute immediately. Considering my age, I think it might be okay for me to get the number six. But if it ultimately makes the team stronger then I’m all for it.”
