Liverpool and their pursuit of Romeo Lavia is about to get ‘interesting’ as Sky Sports provide a new update regarding the transfer.

The Anfield giants received a blow as two of their most experienced midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho parted ways this summer.

Both the Reds have moved to Saudi sides Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively. And in this situation, Liverpool finds themselves in dire need of a new defensive midfielder.

The chatters of the Merseysiders pursuing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia have been doing the rounds for quite some time now.

The club has already submitted the second bid for the Belgian midfielder after their first bid was rejected by the Saints. And now the latest report might cause the Anfield side some severe uneasiness.

Sky Sports provide the latest update on Liverpool and Romeo Lavia

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Chelsea might cause trouble for the Merseyside club. He stated,

“This is getting interesting because Chelsea still hold a strong interest in the Southampton midfielder.

Personal terms not expected to be a problem, as they’re not expected to be a problem with Liverpool.

Chelsea have not made a formal bid yet. Liverpool are the ones making the running as far as the bids are concerned.

They had a £40m bid rejected last week, they’re expected to go back in with an improved offer, but they will face competition we think from Chelsea.”

As known, the Blues have caused chaos in the transfer market in the last season. And at the current moment, they are struggling to move forward with Moises Caicedo.

So for them, Lavia emerges as a legit option if they are unable to land the Caicedo deal. On the other hand, Liverpool are focusing heavily on the 19-year-old as their new midfield addition.

If the club does not make any progress then they would miss out on the opportunity to sign the Belgian. So, Liverpool should focus on completing the deal before Chelsea can make any move.
