EPL 2022/23 is just around the corner and PL legends like Roy Keane and Graeme Souness have picked their winners for the title race.

After an exciting 2021/22 campaign, which saw Man City pipping Liverpool to the title just by 1 point. The 2022/23 season will be here sooner than it seems.

Liverpool will be looking to win their 2nd Premier League while Manchester City might be looking to complete their hattrick.

Keane and Souness on the 2022/23 title race

Graeme Souness and Roy Keane each selected their favourite teams for the title, with the Liverpool great selecting the Reds as the favourites to defeat Manchester City in the Premier League, according to SkyBet.

Souness predicted that the Anfield team will win the prized trophy the following year. The Merseysiders lost by a hair’s breadth last season. The title appeared to be up for grabs on the last day of the season, but Manchester City won it in the dying seconds.

He said:

“I think Liverpool will win it. They came so close last year.”

On the other hand, Keane, a former player for Manchester United, chose Sky Blue as his front-runner. With impressive numbers and accomplishments, the City citizens have now claimed victory in four of the previous five Premier League seasons.

“Man City. Brilliant players, they’ve obviously improved, an unbelievable striker and they’ve got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep (Guardiola).”

Pep vs Klopp

Every football fan in the world has envied Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s dominant but distinct styles of play. This was ever since they both made it to the top division of English football. Over the past few years, Liverpool and City have been the two teams to imitate.

The Cityzens and the Reds have faced off. The Merseysiders were on the verge of winning the Premier League title the next season after the Manchester team won it with 100 points in 2017–18.

After 30 years, Liverpool was able to win the league title in the 2019–20 season. The Reds defeated practically all of their opponents. They went ahead only dropping three games the entire season and won the championship with 99 points.

In the 2020–21 season, injuries left us lacking in defense, and we just about made the top four. But with Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk returning to full fitness, the 2021/22 season was once again close.

Liverpool is the only team to have prevented City from winning three consecutive Premier League championships while Guardiola was in charge. But predicting the same result for the end of the following season wouldn’t be outrageous.
