Liverpool transfer news: Reds target Nico Williams could slip up
Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has dropped Liverpool transfer bombshell as Arne Slot’s Liverpool scrambles under deadline pressure.

Liverpool’s 2024/25 campaign is off to a flying start with two wins from two Premier League games, and Arne Slot is probably feeling pretty pleased with himself.

Two back-to-back 2-0 victories against Ipswich Town and Brentford? Not bad for a guy who just moved to Merseyside. On the pitch, everything is going swimmingly. But off the pitch? Well, let’s just say it’s been a little less smooth sailing.

In what’s becoming a summer tradition, Liverpool remain the only club in the league that has not signed a single player. That’s right – while every other team has been busy snapping up talent, the Reds have been content to sit back and admire their trophy cabinet.

But with the transfer window slamming shut in just a few days, the pressure is on to, you know, actually sign someone.

Fabrizio Romano, the man who knows all the secrets of transfer market, thinks that Liverpool’s brain trust is setting up a fresh transfer meeting on Monday. It is a bank holiday, but who cares about a day off when you have got zero new signings?

What does Romano know about Liverpool?

Romano reports that this meeting could be crucial as Liverpool desperately tries to get something – anything – over the line before Friday’s deadline. Romano said on his Here We Go podcast.

“It’s still a really concrete possibility because Liverpool are working on it. There will be a new meeting on Monday, so tomorrow [Monday] could be an important day to try and close the deal for Mamardashvili. I’ve already told you there’s an agreement on the deal…”

“I can tell you, talking to sources, I can feel optimism to get the deal done.”

Liverpool are still working on a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili, and even Alisson Becker has approved the potential signing of Mamardashvili at Liverpool. But that is not going to improve their side for this season.

The Reds will be competing in the Champions League, two domestic cup competitions, and the Premier League on a squad which has arguably gotten weaker over summer. Not to mention, several key players are in the final year of their contracts.
