Before the kick-off, it was an iconic moment when Anfield roared in the reception of their so-called son Steven Gerrard. The battle was going to be intense and it stood up to its expectations. Both the teams press well and were quite disciplined when it comes to the defensive part of the game. Thus, there were no clear cut chances but a few good moments for the Reds to recall from the first-half.

The second half saw Jurgen Klopp’s side dominate the game as Anfield was demanding a goal. Thereafter, the Reds were able to rotate the ball quite well and kept the position in the oppositions half. Meanwhile, Lautaro Martínez made a few good saves on either side of the half. However, as the time kept ticking the Anfield crowd got their voices behind the Reds. Thus, this eventually led to Tyrone Mings making the first mistake on the night and Salah was up for the spot-kick.

The Egyptian, who almost never misses penalties made sure to calm his nerves before eventually firing it down to the left of Martinez. Meaning, the deadlock was broken after 67 minutes into the game and it was Liverpool who had the scoreline in their favour.

Meanwhile, Gerrard’s Villa tried hard to break Liverpool’s defence but couldn’t manage to do so. While Alisson’s mistake of clearance was the best chance the Villans had in the game.

With this now Liverpool marched on closer to the leaders’ Manchester City in the Premier League table.
