Newcastle United vs Liverpool: Preview

Jurgen Klopp pre-match Press Conference: Newcastle United vs Liverpool

The fixture looks a tricky one for the Reds. The resurgent Magpies will look to put obstruction to Liverpool’s work as Klopp’s men challenge Man City in the title race.

The last time both sides faced each other, Klopp’s side eased past the struggling visitors, 3-1 at Anfield. But a lot has changed since then.

A combination of effective January spending and the hard work of Eddie Howe have transformed Newcastle’s form. From relegation contenders to the top half of league standings so far, the Magpies are optimistic about ending the season-high.

Since the turn of the year, Liverpool have collected the most number of points (38) in the Premier League in 2022. Interestingly, Newcastle United are the second with 32. With four games remaining, the Toons are ninth in the table.

Meanwhile, Klopp will be expecting his boys to repeat the heroics again as they did at home back in December.

Liverpool will go into the game after a back of an encouraging 2-0 victory in the semi-final of the Champions League game against Villarreal. Moreover, the away side’s Premier League record this year is outstanding, the Anfield club has registered 12 wins of their last 14 Premier League matches.

Liverpool are currently with 79 points in second place, as last week’s Merseyside derby success over Everton kept the gap at the top to Manchester City to just one point.

Meanwhile, in the busy Easter period, where Klopp has shown intention of fixture rescheduling. As games taking place as per schedule, his team has shown enough hunger week and week out.

Astonishingly, the Reds’ eight games this month have seen them notch up at least two goals on each occasion. Also, no side has yet managed to hand the Reds their first away loss of 2022 in any competition.

Team News

Klopp has a fit squad with only Roberto Firmino, the only concern with a foot injury.

Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones who missed out on the mid-week clash against Villarreal due to illness should be back in the matchday squad for the trip to the Northeast.

Moreover, Klopp would like to rotate his squad, keeping in mind the important clash at Villarreal. Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Diogo Jota, and Joe Gomez could come back in the starting eleven.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Keita; Salah, Mane, Jota
