Paris Saint-Germain are supposedly working towards a deal for Spanish youngster Gabri Veiga ahead of Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Veiga had a fantastic 2022-23 season with Celta Vigo which definitely attracted many clubs across Europe. His release clause of €40M in his contract makes him even more desirable.

The Spanish U-21 international has scored 11 goals and provided 4 assists in 36 La Liga appearances (stats via WhoScored).

Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester City are the four Premier League clubs who are interested in signing the 21-year-old midfielder. A recent report via the Evening Standard said that Chelsea are looking to replace the Manchester United-bound Mason Mount with Veiga.

Paris to snatch the Veiga deal from Liverpool and Newcastle

With interest flowing from the top PL clubs, French side PSG are reportedly working ‘quickly’ to secure the deal with the Celta Vigo player.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, PSG ‘have made good progress’ in their bid to sign Veiga. The club has booked a medical already which displays their confidence.

Negotiations are now in ‘advanced’ stages despite gaining interest from PL giants as well as both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Although no agreement is in place between PSG and Celta Vigo, the French side are hoping to complete Veiga’s medical by the weekend.

The upcoming coach for the Parisiens, Luis Enrique ‘knows Veiga well’. Moreover, this is giving the confidence boost that they will complete the deal successfully.

Liverpool just completed their second signing of the summer with Dominik Szoboszlai after the success of Alexis Mac Allister’s deal. So they will need another signing who will be more solid defensively.

On the other hand, the Magpies missed out on James Maddison and Szoboszlai. Although it is very unclear whether Eddie Howe will pursue Bayer Leverkusen for winger Moussa

Newcastle would definitely be the front-runners for the Spanish youngster if the deal with PSG does not go through. Meanwhile, the Reds will just have to sit through this saga and seek out other options.
