Liverpool youngster’s season cut short amid loan spell

Young Liverpool defender Calum Scanlon faces a premature end to his season. He suffered a severe health issue while on loan. This is his second major setback this campaign.

Calum Scanlon had recently returned to Millwall camp from a four-month absence due to a back stress fracture. He made a notable comeback, scoring his first senior goal in a 2-2 draw against Cardiff.

Unfortunately, he was forced off early during a 1-0 victory over Luton. Subsequent scans revealed a grade three hamstring tear.

Liverpool defender Scanlon injury concerns confirmed

According to Southwark News, Millwall’s manager, Alex Neil, provided an update on Scanlon’s condition.

He stated,

“Calum’s got a grade three on his hamstring.”

Neil added that the expected recovery time is around twelve weeks. This timeline suggests Scanlon’s season is effectively over.

This injury is a significant blow for the 19-year-old. Initially playing as a left-back, Scanlon had been utilized as a winger upon his return. He will likely return to Liverpool’s training centre for rehabilitation.

Impact on loan spell and future prospects

A twelve-week recovery period means Scanlon would be sidelined until late April. Millwall’s final game is scheduled for May 3 against Burnley.

Even if fit, it’s improbable he would feature in that match. Millwall’s chances of reaching the playoffs are slim, further diminishing his prospects this season.

Scanlon isn’t the only Liverpool loanee facing injury challenges. Luke Chambers, on loan at Wigan, is dealing with a back injury.

A decision is pending on whether he will remain with Wigan or return to Liverpool for treatment.
