Marc Guehi is not being pursued by Liverpool according to Fabrizio Romano, who has denied any transfer interest this summer. Arne Slot, the new manager, is considering other defensive options.

In response to reports that Liverpool were interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Fabrizio Romano called the rumours ‘fake’.

Liverpool are not interested in signing Guehi this summer, as Romano made clear on social media in response to reports from GiveMeSport indicating that talks had begun for the England centre-back.

Guehi was once mentioned as a possible target, but nothing has happened since Liverpool made their first inquiry in March.

Other Possibilities

It is unclear what defensive additions, if any, will be made as interim manager Arne Slot continues to assess his team in preparation for the season.

Liverpool presently have four senior centre-backs, but with Joel Matip’s impending departure, the Reds are looking into other options.

Though there has been conjecture about different defenders throughout the transfer window, Slot’s choices will probably become clearer as time goes on.

Guehi is one of the best defenders outside of the traditional Premier League top six, having made 111 appearances for Palace since leaving Chelsea to gain regular first-team football.

A Loanee To The Rescue

After a productive loan stint at Mainz, Liverpool also have the option of bringing young player Sepp van den Berg into the starting lineup.

According to reports, Van den Berg impressed Slot during the preseason, possibly saving the team millions of dollars by avoiding the need to sign a new defender.

Given their strong finish to the previous campaign under manager Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace, who has already lost Michael Olise, will probably make an effort to hold onto Guehi.
