Liverpool might be about to reel in a future superstar, as Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo emerges as a top transfer for the Reds.
Liverpool might just be about to pull off a masterstroke in the transfer arena, snapping up the next Martin Odegaard at a bargain price.
The Reds have not dipped into their wallets yet this summer. But the rumour mill is buzzing with hints that this is set to change.
With Arne Slot now calling the shots at Liverpool and teaming up with sporting director Richard Hughes, the duo is on a mission to strengthen the squad before the transfer window slams shut on September 2.
The latest name on their wish list? — Takefusa Kubo.
According to Sports Nippon, Kubo’s agent has already travelled to England to negotiate terms for the 23-year-old’s potential transfer, which could mark Liverpool’s first acquisition under Slot’s management.
Kubo has made a significant impact since joining Real Sociedad in 2022, tallying 16 goals and 14 assists. If he joins Liverpool, he would be following a career trajectory similar to that of Martin Odegaard.
Kubo: The Next Odegaard Is Heading Liverpool
Kubo’s journey mirrors Odegaard’s early career path. Before his success at Real Sociedad, Kubo was on the books of Real Madrid.
But he never made an appearance for their first team during his three-year stint with the club.
Instead, he spent time on loan at various clubs before finding a permanent home at Sociedad. Similarly, Odegaard got only 11 first-team appearances over four years of his time at Real Madrid.
He experienced a successful loan spell with Real Sociedad during the 2019/20 season. This paved the way for his eventual move to Arsenal. The Gunners signed him for a fee that could rise to £34 million in 2021.
Since then, Odegaard has thrived at Arsenal. He even became the team captain a year after his permanent transfer and established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.
Kubo will undoubtedly hope to emulate Odegaard’s success should he make the move to Liverpool. With his impressive performance record at Sociedad, Kubo could be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s squad.
