Liverpool’s plans for a grand summer signing might be derailed due to a possible move by Kevin De Bruyne as his rumoured departure from Manchester City might jeopardize Liverpool’s pursuit of Eberechi Eze.
De Bruyne has been linked with a transfer to Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Pro League team.
The Saudi club has already secured a £50 million deal for Aston Villa’s Moussa Diaby after just one season with the club.
De Bruyne has just one year left in his contract at Manchester City. Reports from Italy indicate that he has agreed to personal terms with Al-Ittihad.
De Bruyne had hinted about the difficulty of turning down a lucrative offer from the Middle East when speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws.
“I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen. My eldest is now eight years old and knows nothing but England.
He also asks how long I will play for City. Once the moment comes, we will have to deal with it in a certain way. At my age, you have to be open to everything.
You’re talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.”
The Belgian said,
“If I play there for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money. Before that, I had to play football for 15 years.
I may not even reach that amount yet. Then you have to think about what that could mean next. But at the moment I haven’t had to think about that yet.”
Liverpool May Lose Eze Due To De Bruyne
If De Bruyne leaves the Etihad Stadium, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze is seen as a potential long-term replacement.
City are currently considering a £68 million bid for the England international. Eze has still three years left on his contract with Palace.
Eze was the dream for Liverpool as well as Tottenham and Arsenal. Last season was his most successful season to date.
He netted 11 goals and provided 6 assists for Crystal Palace, who finished 10th in the Premier League under new manager Oliver Glasner.
Eze’s outstanding club performance earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, where he made three appearances.
Despite his impressive season, Eze’s selection for the Euro 2024 squad surprised some in Germany.
Crystal Palace have already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. Now they will have to brace themselves for another one.
While Liverpool have yet not opened their transfer book, they are close to finalizing a deal for Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.
