Koopmeiners From Atalanta To Liverpool

The Merseyside club is reportedly working to capture the signing of Teun Koopmeiners from the Serie A club Atalanta for a fee of around £60 million.

Despite adding four central midfielders during the last summer transfer window in 2022, the Reds are keen on further improvement in the middle of the park.

Reports suggest that Liverpool have been diligently gathering information on Koopmeiners with Graeme Bailey noting that the Dutch international midfielder is a player of significant interest and potential key for the club. He said,

“I think he’s one who will no doubt they’ll be doing their work on, I think they’ll be aware of.”

Missing Piece In Midfield

Liverpool’s hunt for Teun Koopmeiners reflects their persistent efforts to enhance their midfield, even as they already possess versatile players like the Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai and the Argentinian World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

Szoboszlai, although off form in recent times, is considered a talented player capable of playing both centrally and out wide along the lines.

On the other hand, Mac Allister has impressed in offensive roles but struggled when deployed on the pitch as a defensive midfielder, implying that Liverpool may benefit from acquiring a more specialized playmaker in that position.

Midfield Conundrum For The Reds

However, it is as clear as daylight that Liverpool need a midfield maestro to create chances, they cannot rely on Alexander-Arnold to be the midfielder always.

Wataru Endo, who served as the main playbreaker last season, had a decent debut but struggled when playing against more physical teams like Atalanta and also he is 33 years old.

Liverpool would benefit more from signing a young and quality defensive midfielder to bolster their squad and provide more balance in the midfield for the upcoming season.
