In a dramatic turn of events during Egypt’s second group stage clash against Ghana in the AFCON 2023, football fans witnessed Mohamed Salah exiting the pitch with what appears to be a hamstring injury.
The Egyptian King’s departure just before half-time left both Egypt and Liverpool supporters on edge, fearing the worst for their star player.
Coverage circulating on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), featured close-up footage of Salah realizing the severity of the injury.
The 31-year-old forward, who recently netted the equalizer in Egypt’s draw against Mozambique, looked visibly upset as he was replaced by Mostafa Fathi.
Rui Vitoria on Injury of Mo Salah
Despite the setback, Egypt managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Ghana. Following the match, Egypt’s manager, Rui Vitoria, attempted to alleviate concerns, stating that he does not consider Salah’s latest injury as “dangerous.”
Vitoria’s reassurance comes amid worries about Salah’s fitness, with a crucial Group B fixture against Cape Verde looming on the horizon.
Salah’s injury occurred in the 45th minute, and shortly after his substitution, Ghana took the lead through Mohamed Kudus.
Despite the setback, Egypt responded, levelling the score twice with goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed.
Egypt currently sits in second place in Group B, having accumulated two points from their opening two matches.
The final group-stage match against Cape Verde will be crucial for Egypt’s hopes of progressing to the Round of 16.
A victory could secure their spot, as the top two teams from each group, along with the four third-place teams with the best record, advance to the knockout stage.
While concerns linger over Salah’s fitness, Egypt remains focused on their upcoming match and the potential advancement in the tournament.
The next few days will likely be filled with anticipation and speculation regarding Salah’s recovery and availability for future matches, both in AFCON and for his club, Liverpool.
