Liverpool have contacted Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia for a potential summer transfer move. The Reds need one more signing to complete their midfield rebuild for the next season.
Liverpool have already succeeded to secure two of their key targets this summer. The club completed the Alexis Mac Allister deal for £35M earlier in June.
The midfielder was a key player of the Argentina World Cup-winning squad. He also helped Brighton to secure the 6th place in the PL table just below the Reds and qualified for Europa League.
Liverpool announced their second signing of the window, Dominik Szoboszlai just two days ago. LFC signed the Hungarian midfielder for €70M from RB Leipzig triggering the release clause as soon as it expired.
Now Liverpool needs a defensive midfielder to complete the midfield overhaul. And Romeo Lavia looks like the perfect candidate.
Romeo Lavia to Liverpool from Southampton?
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has hinted that the Merseyside club might be doing the business while talking on The Debrief Podcast. He stated,
“It’s also important to mention that Romeo Lavia is expensive too. Southampton want around £50m for Romeo Lavia, but from what I’m hearing, Liverpool in recent days had some direct contact on both the club and the player’s side to explore the conditions of the Romeo Lavia deal.
It’s not time for a bid yet, because of course they just completed a deal for Dominik Szoboszlai, so now it’s more time to have internal discussions before attacking any situation for the new midfielder.”

The Anfield giants might face some competition for Lavia from Arsenal. However, the Gunners spent big money on Kai Havertz and are about to spend more on Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. So they might fall behind in the race for the Belgian youngster.
Lavia will be playing in the Championship as the Saints finished 20th and got relegated from Premier League. So he will be looking for a club to play in the top tier of English football.
And both Liverpool and Romeo Lavia can benefit from the transfer. It is just a wait for a few more days to see the outcome of the situation.
