Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, who rejected Liverpool offer in the summer transfer window of 2024 has now re-opened the door for the Reds to sign him in the January transfer window this season.
According to reports via Estadio Deportivo, Martin Zubimendi who was Liverpool’s top midfield target during the summer transfer window, has asked the Reds to rekindle their interest in him, when the January transfer window commences.
Although Zubimendi had the option to stay at his boyhood club Real Sociedad, Liverpool were prepared to exercise the £52 million release clause in his contract.
Zubimendi rekindles Liverpool pursuit for January transfer window
The Spain international was anticipated to sign a new lucrative deal with Sociedad. He was instrumental in his country’s victory at Euro 2024.
But according to recent reports he declined the offer expressing regret for not signing with Liverpool in the summer and expressing a desire to move to the Premier League. Reports say,
“he intends to land in the Premier League this winter”
Due to the departure of important players like Mikel Merino to Arsenal and Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad have struggled to gain any traction in the first six games of their La Liga campaign managing just four points from six games.
The club faces more difficulties because of the ambiguity surrounding Zubimendi’s future. The midfield player is now eager to depart in January so Liverpool needs to choose whether to pursue him further.
Under new manager Arne Slot Liverpool are hoping to bolster their midfield options and Zubimendi’s desire to play in England could be a big help.
The dynamic midfielder the Reds have been looking for all summer could finally be theirs if they choose to pursue the Spaniard once more.
