Liverpool are in talks with James Maddison’s representatives over signing him during the summer transfer window.
As per 90min, the Reds have already been in touch with the Englishman’s camp. Liverpool will be looking for a midfield overhaul this summer and Maddison could be one of the potential targets who can help in the rebuild.
Leicester City are having a season to forget. After their recent 1-2 defeat to Aston Villa at home, the Foxes find themselves at the 19th position in the table.
Despite a torrid season, Maddison has been the only ray of hope for Leicester with his eye-catching performances.
In 21 Premier League appearances this season, the attacking midfielder has impressively bagged nine goals and six assists.
Liverpool to battle it out with Tottenham for James Maddison’s signature
Regardless of whether the Foxes manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League, the club has accepted to part ways with the 26-year-old.
The Englishman will be out of contract in the summer of 2024. Liverpool and Tottenham look to be the potential future destinations for the midfielder.
However, the Foxes’ midfielder has also been linked with Newcastle for some time now. With the playmaker valued at about £50m, this will not be a cheap deal for anyone.
Liverpool have been lacking creativity this season without a doubt. Signing a player like Maddison can boost the goal-scoring opportunities for their attackers.
With Alexander Arnold out of form, the Reds will be looking for an alternate set-piece specialist and the 26-year-old completely fits that bill.
The likes of Spurs and Newcastle United in the race for Maddison will surely not make it a straight-forward transfer for the Reds to secure.
However, hailed as a world-class player by Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson, the midfielder’s £50m price tag could tempt Jurgen Klopp into a move.
Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers has also compared Maddison with the likes of Merseyside great Phillipe Coutinho.
