Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah headed a late winner against Italy, as England are through to the final of the U19 Euros.

At the end of last season, and further completion of international duties, players are having a much-needed break. Meanwhile, some players are nearing the end of the post-season holidays as training at Liverpool’s AXA training Centre starts on Monday.

But three young Reds are still in action, with the likes of Jarell Quansah, Harvey Davies, and Luke Chambers. Although, only Quansah features regularly for Ian Foster’s U19 side, as the 19-year-old defender starting every single so far in the Euros U19 in Slovakia.

England secured a semi-final spot after victories over Austria, Serbia, and Israel on the group stage. In the semis, the Young Lions were up against the Azzurri at Senec, a town in Slovakia.

It took just 12 minutes for Italy to take the lead, as Miretti converted a penalty. England goalkeeper Matthew Cox was able to get his hand to Miretti’s effort, but the penalty had too much on it as Italy took a 1-0 lead. However, it was the first goal conceded by the Brentford B goalkeeper in the competition so far.

With the score being in Italy’s favour, England manager Ian Foster made a triple change. The change led to an immediate impact for England, as substitute Alex Scott headed in Alfie Devine’s corner (58th minute) with his first touch to bring the scores level.

Moreover, England scored again from close range from another corner. Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah headed home completing a dramatic turnaround in the 81st minute.

The second-half comeback for England means they will play Israel in the final on Friday.

Impressive Young Lions

England’s senior team boss Gareth Southgate sent a god luck message to the squad before their semi-final tie. Moreover, there is no doubt that Southgate will be keenly watching Friday’s final.

This group of players would be hoping to get into the senior side hoping to make it to the 2026 World Cup.

So far, Harvey Vale, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Alfie Devine have drawn attention with their performances and shining in Slovakia. Captain Vale’s corner led to Quansah scoring the dramatic winner. Plus, Midfielder Chukwuemeka has been impressive following his successful first season at Aston Villa in the Premier League having come through the club’s youth ranks. Meanwhile, Devine’s set-pieces always proved dangerous.

The future looks bright for England, as young talents and their hard work will pay dividends.
