Liverpool Cup hero Caoimhin Kelleher could ‘claim’ Ireland’s No.1 spot

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, could well in place look to don the goal for his National team Republic of Ireland. He would be ready to take up this opportunity in the upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania.

This opportunity has been presented to him, as first choice Goal-Keeper Gavin Bazunu has fallen ill ‘unfortunately’ right before the matches.

Kelleher’s experience

The Liverpool backup Goal Keeper has played only a couple of International games. He all though has been with the squad for a couple of years now.

Kelleher has recently ‘shone’ for Liverpool, as his heroics helped them in clinching the League Cup after quite a while.

The 23-year-old, Irish Keeper would not be short on confidence. But playing against a champion team could be nerve-racking albeit it’s only friendlies.

With having 17 appearances for Liverpool’s first team, and not regularly playing, considering his position. This could be the best time to showcase his ‘skills and saves’ as he looks more than certain about starting for Ireland.

He would be the Senior Goal Keeper amidst the other two rookies who have been added to the squad.

Manager Kenny’s take on Caoimhin Kelleher

The manager had earlier this month affirmed that Gavin Bazunu would be preferred over Kelleher, as first-choice keeper.

In a recent Interaction, this is what the Ireland Boss had to say,

He’s laconic, makes goalkeeping nearly an art form. It’s beautiful to watch him, aesthetically amazing to watch.

I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a goalkeeper, brilliant to watch, such style and composure under pressure.

The boss was in full praise of his custodian in goal, which would invariably motivate the lad as well.

The only weak point here is of Kelleher’s big match experience but it might take the player just a few minutes on the pitch and he may ‘seem confident’ about it.
