Jurgen Klopp has decided against starting EFL Cup hero Kelleher vs Norwich

Caoimhin Kelleher had a steller EFL Cup final on Sunday, but Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the goalkeeper will not start tonight.

Liverpool are back in action in the FA Cup as they host Premier League strugglers Norwich City in Anfield. And the Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher was thought to be again the starter in the goalkeeping position against the Canaries.

Kelleher was the star performer against Chelsea in the EFL Cup final making his name in the Liverpool history books. So far in the season, Klopp has deputized the 22-year-old for the domestic cup games ahead of Alisson.

But this time Liverpool boss Klopp has other ideas.

As per the club’s official website, the German said:

He’s not used to 120 minutes and being the hero. There’s no need to stress the situation now. No, he will not start tomorrow.

For young goalkeepers, it’s, of course, about development, and Caoimhin developed here in this situation incredibly well. There was absolutely no intention to sell him or something like that, or give him on loan. Not at all because we need a strong No.2.

Winning a trophy, that will help him? You have to ask Caoimhin that. But he has here a long-term contract and we have a long-term plan with him. But maybe there’s a year where he has to go on loan – I’m not sure if that will be next year or maybe later, it depends a little bit.

As Kelleher not starting tonight, we can expect Liverpool No.1 Allison to be back for his goalkeeping duty.

With a crucial game against West Ham coming up i, the Norwich game tonight will provide the setup to be ready for Saturday’s Hammer’s challenge.

What Anfield Home thinks about Kelleher after press confeence held with Klopp

Kelleher played a critical role in keeping a clean sheet in Wembley final and moreover scoring the final penalty in the shootout.

There is no denying that the 22-year-old is an absolute class. But he is now at the stage of his career where he needs regular game time at the top level.

And from Klopp’s words, it seems Liverpool are planning a loan spell away at a club where he will be tested week in and week out. To be honest, It would do wonders for the Irishman’s career.

It will be interesting to see in which club he’ll end up if he’s allowed to leave on loan.

Meanwhile, tonight Kelleher would have loved to start against Norwich, but surely Klopp thinks the other way.

Even though we thought the 22-year-old to start but the German technician definitely knows what’s good for his players and the Club and that’s why is a successful manager in world football.

So we go with Klopp’s decision.
