Liverpool would be looking for a new manager at the end of the season as Jurgen Klopp revealed he would be leaving the club and De Zerbi is one of the names.
The focus is now on Liverpool and FSG as the football world eagerly waits to see Klopp’s successor.
The high standards that the German has set could be really hard to emulate, but there have been names. The likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi have been at the forefront.
Roberto De Zerbi: the successor to Klopp at Liverpool?
One high-profile name doing the rounds is that of the Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi. Although he has been at the Amex for 12 months, he has done a brilliant job.
Former Liverpool player, James Milner is an admirer of the Italian and revealed he is a huge fan. He has spoken highly of his current boss.
“He’s an exciting manager, he’s really passionate, forward thinking and has a fantastic way of setting up his team. He’s someone who is confident in himself and loves his team.”
When a very experienced player like James Milner puts someone in such high regard, it is obvious how good he is. But how good is his mettle? We have all seen the case of Graham Potter.
Although he was brilliant at Brighton, he failed to emulate the same when he moved to Chelsea. Of course, moving to the red side of Merseyside is a big step up and could the Italian handle it? Only time would tell, if it were to happen of course.
Other names on the list
There have been other names who could replace Klopp. Xabi Alonso is a high-profile name who has been terrific in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen.
Halfway into the season, he has managed to sit in first place and is 2 points off Bayern. Many also believe that the former Liverpool player needs to come back to Anfield in a managerial role.
Moreover, the likes of Potecoglou and Thomas Frank are also being thrown around. But the obvious sentiment is that Klopp is surely irreplaceable. Liverpool Football Club now need to think and prepare for their life after Klopp.
