Gary Lineker names Liverpool duo Alexander-Arnold and Salah as Arne Slot’s new stars in win over Brentford – but will FSG let them slip away?

Arne Slot has kicked off his reign at Anfield with a solid 2-0 win over Brentford, and it’s safe to say the honeymoon period is off to a pretty promising start.

Following up on their victory against Ipswich Town in the Premier League opener, Liverpool under Slot seem to be ticking along nicely – something Gary Lineker was quick to point out, of course.

In his latest bit of punditry gold, Lineker couldn’t help but sing the praises of the Reds after their second clean sheet in as many matches. Lineker said about Liverpool’s performance,

“I thought they were pretty impressive. They could have scored a lot more goals. I thought, once again, like last week. Trent Alexander-Arnold was superb. Mo Salah is looking sharp. A good start for Arne Slot.

“They were very dominant throughout. They had lots of chances. The goalkeeper (Brentford’s Mark Flekken) played well.”

Let’s not get too carried away, though. After all, it’s early days, and we all know how quickly things can change in football. But as of now, Liverpool and Arsenal remain the only teams yet to concede this season, and that’s not something to sneeze at.

Alexander-Arnold and Salah: Heroes of Liverpool

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool were known for their high-octane, they were aggressive, in your face and 100 miles per hour. This style brought them countless successes.

But Slot’s Liverpool? Well, it looks like they have dialed it down a notch. Less aggressive, more controlled, and dare we say it – relaxed? Yet, they still pack that lethal punch up front, as evidenced by their clinical performance against Brentford.

Luis Diaz started the party with an early goal after just 13 minutes, thanks to a lightning-fast counter-attack. But it was Mohamed Salah who stole the show once again, scoring in the 70th minute.

Salah has been scoring in back-to-back matches. Lineker couldn’t help but gush over the Egyptian King, remarking on how ‘sharp’ he’s looking this season.

Another player catching Lineker’s eye? None other than Trent Alexander-Arnold. He was even dubbed ‘superb’ for his performance. The lad’s clearly thriving under Slot’s new system, and if you are a Liverpool fan, you have got to be quietly pleased – if not a bit nervous.

Why nervous, you ask? Well, both Salah and Alexander-Arnold are out of contract next summer. Yep, that’s right. FSG might just let two of their biggest stars walk away for nothing.

So while Slot’s era at Anfield might be off to a smooth start, let’s hope the suits upstairs don’t ruin the fun by letting their prized assets slip through their fingers. Classic Liverpool, right?
