Euro 2024 Shock: Liverpool Star At Risk Of Losing Starting Spot After Disappointing Iceland Performance

The starting spot for Gakpo in Euro 2024 is under threat following a lacklustre performance versus Iceland as replacements Malen and Weghorst are posing a serious threat.

A Bad Performance

Due to his inconsistent play in a recent match against Iceland Cody Gakpo’s spot in the Netherlands national team for Euro 2024 is in jeopardy.

Gakpo was replaced by Donyell Malen who went on to score along with fellow substitute Wout Weghorst despite the fact that Malen had scored a respectable 6. 5 out of 10 and had shown some promise.

Due to his performance the Dutch media outlet AD has suggested that Gakpo will now have to contend with fierce competition in order to earn a starting spot in Ronald Koeman’s team for the tournament in Germany.

Liverpool Players To Keep An Eye On

Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson are three players that Liverpool supporters should keep an eye on during Euro 2024 as they will all be captains of their respective countries.

In contrast to his club teammates who have more assured spots Gakpo may not be a sure starter for the Netherlands.

Though he has shown promise in the past, particularly during the 2022 World Cup his form at Liverpool has been inconsistent this season which has caused uncertainty about his place in the national team.

Gakpo At The Euro 2024

Gakpo needs to take advantage of every chance he gets to shine and find his form again as Euro 2024 draws near in order to guarantee a spot in the starting lineup.

This summer will be crucial for Gakpo’s career because of the intense competition he faces from teammates and the pressure to perform well for both club and country.

If he does well in the competition Arne Slot the new manager of Liverpool may be able to add him to the national team and improve his prospects.
