‘Excellent’ Liverpool player set to depart before deadline day
Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg will not be a Reds player as he is set to leave Anfield in favour of the Championship move before the deadline day.
The 20-year-old defender has been an unused sub in Liverpool’s first four Premier League games. He has been linked with a temporary switch to numerous Championship clubs. Moreover, clubs from Germany are seriously keen on Van de Berg.
However, according to Lancashire Telegraph reports, Blackburn Rovers have won the race for the Liverpool defender.
The deal will reportedly be a season-long loan for Van den Berg. Furthermore, Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is keen on getting the Dutchman and sees him as one of the key members if he joins in a bid for Rovers’ promotion.
Sepp van de Berg’s move to Blackburn is best for Liverpool and the player if he moves before the deadline
The highly rated defender Sepp van de Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in June 2019. He was the first Klopp signing after Liverpool were crowned European champion.
Since his arrival from Netherland, Van de Berg has made four senior appearances for the Reds. The Dutchman spent the last 18 months at the Championship side Preston North End making 66 appearances for the club.
Earlier some reports suggested the 20-year-old would join, Burnley. Manager Vincent Kompany was eager to bring the defender to Turf Moor from Anfield. But both Liverpool and the player himself were still weighing up their options that would benefit all the parties involved.
With Blackburn making move ahead of Burnley, also Rovers boss Tomasson convinced the Dutchman to be a key man if he joins on loan. Also, the Liverpool boss has given the green light to the move and is keen on Van de Berg’s championship move for his development.
The move is considered excellent given he continues his development after his good spell at Preston. Previously, Preston manager Alex Neil described the defender as ‘excellent’ during his time at Deepdale.
The defender is highly rated but still far from the level expected to be regular in Liverpool’s playing squad.
Liverpool demanding hefty fines, if Van den Berg doesn’t play
To continue Van de Berg’s development, the 20-year-old is set for his move to Blackburn Rovers with all parties keen on the temporary deal. However, Liverpool are demanding a hefty penalty clause if he does not play enough.
