Liverpool central midfielder Stefan Bajcetic saw his breakout season abruptly cut short by a devastating injury, adding more unwelcome pressure to the Reds’ already beleaguered midfield.

On Thursday, the Spaniard posted on Instagram:

“Unfortunately I’ve picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season.

It’s very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.

I would also like to say thank you to you reds for all the support through the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever.”

The midfielder was unable to play in Liverpool’s early elimination from the Champions League following their 1-0 loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabéu.

One of the few bright spots in an otherwise disastrous season for Liverpool has been the rise of Bajcetic. The Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League standings, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have played a game more.

Klopp on Stefan Bajcetic’s injury

“With Stefan, it is a stress response, which is absolutely bad,”

Jurgen Klopp explained his absence to the reporters.

“So, he doesn’t feel a lot, it’s only a little bit but he is now out for I don’t know exactly how long. We have just to let it settle then and we will see when he can come back. [It’s] high up, around the adductor.”

Bajcetic has been a breakthrough star in what has been a disastrous season for Liverpool.

The 18-year-old wonderkid has made 19 appearances in all competitions, becoming a regular starter since the turn of the year, and scored his first Reds goal against Aston Villa back in December.

With a player getting back to full fitness another has to get injured, this has been the story for the Merseyside club throughout the season.
