Alexander Isak’s Liverpool story has been more of a slow burn than an explosive debut.
The Swedish forward arrived at Anfield this summer amid huge excitement and a record-breaking £125 million fee, but the fireworks haven’t quite started yet.
Fans are asking: when will they see the real Alexander Isak?
His journey to full fitness has been far from smooth. After forcing a move from Newcastle United, Isak skipped most of pre-season and early matches to secure his switch.
By the time he joined Arne Slot’s squad in early September, the striker had barely played a competitive game in nearly three months — except for a short cameo for Sweden.
Since then, Slot has been cautious. He’s given Isak short spells on the pitch, gradually building his minutes rather than throwing him straight into the fire.
The longest runout so far came in the 2–1 loss to Crystal Palace, where he played 84 minutes — his best showing yet in a red shirt. But Slot was quick to cool expectations, admitting before the Chelsea game that Isak “can’t play every single game.” (via Sky Sports)

Lewis Steele update on Alexander Isak?
Reports suggest Liverpool’s medical team expects Isak to hit peak fitness in three to four weeks, though full sharpness may take up to three months.
Football journalist Lewis Steele explained, “Isak is still in the recovery phase, and is expected to reach peak fitness in 3–4 weeks… full recovery may extend up to 3 months.”
That patience-first approach appears to be paying off. Against Chelsea, Isak looked more like the player Liverpool thought they were buying — mobile, composed, and smart in tight spaces.
His clever assist showed flashes of his old self. Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson even praised Liverpool’s handling of his recovery, saying:
“He looks better than a month ago. He made an excellent assist at the weekend.”
Tomasson also warned against rushing him:
“When are you fully fit as a player? Normally you need a pre-season of six weeks and then another three weeks to really be on top. Alexander is a good example – Liverpool have handled him in an excellent way.”

The long game for Liverpool
Isak’s slow integration isn’t just about fitness — it’s strategy. Slot knows that muscle injuries can derail a season, and he’s determined not to let that happen to his new star striker.
Liverpool’s plan has been compared to a chess move — calculated, patient, and designed to win in the long run.
And it seems to be working. Isak’s link-up play with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo is improving, his pressing looks sharper, and his hold-up play has begun to fit Slot’s system. Every week, there’s a little more rhythm, a little more chemistry.
With crucial fixtures ahead — including a massive clash against Manchester United at Anfield — Liverpool will hope that the “real” Alexander Isak is finally about to step forward. For now, Slot’s message is clear: patience brings payoff.
