Liverpool fans, it’s almost time to paint the town red — literally. With the Premier League title secured, club captain Virgil van Dijk has shared a heartfelt message ahead of Liverpool bus parade later this month.
And yes, he’s urging fans to keep that sea of red flowing through the streets.
The Dutch defender, a pillar at the back and now at the front of celebrations, is calling on supporters to show up in full colour for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest parades in club history.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, van Dijk described his excitement and encouraged fans to do their part in creating a legendary atmosphere.
The parade will roll out on Monday, May 26, just a day after Liverpool wrap up their season against Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The city is preparing for an unforgettable event, with estimates suggesting up to one million fans could fill the streets. That’s not just a crowd — it’s a Kop on wheels.

What Virgil van Dijk said ahead of Liverpool bus parade
“Hopefully it will be even better than what we had after the Champions League final [in 2022] and I already encouraged everyone to wear red in the last game,” Van Dijk said.
“Keep doing that for the rest of the season because everyone saw how amazing it was. Hopefully the 25th will top that and the parade will be even more crazy than ever and there will be even more people coming from around the world to be in Liverpool to come and be with us.”
This won’t be the first time the city has gone parade-crazy. Back in 2019, 750,000 turned out for the Champions League celebration.
But this one could top it, especially with fans having a whole month to plan the party since Liverpool sealed the title on April 27.
Van Dijk admitted the 2022 celebration felt “a bit strange” after a Champions League final loss, but this time? It’s all joy. “I can picture it,” he said, imagining an emotional day with his family present.
So, Reds fans, get your shirts ready, flags waving, and vocal cords warmed up. If Van Dijk’s words are anything to go by, this could be one of the greatest parties Merseyside has ever seen.
