Alexander Isak transfer update

The absence of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United’s pre-season trip to Singapore raised more than just eyebrows.

While the club pointed to a “minor thigh injury” as the reason, fresh reports suggest there’s more going on behind the scenes.

The Sweden international has reportedly asked not to travel with the squad, fueling speculation over his future.

Newcastle, who had hoped to keep him long-term, are now dealing with growing interest from Liverpool and a player who appears unsettled.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Isak made the decision himself to stay behind.

“Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle United, multiple sources privy to the situation have told The Athletic,” he reported. That revelation has shifted the narrative from injury to intention.

Newcastle have insisted the decision was based on protecting Isak from unnecessary risk. The long flight, coupled with a tight schedule, made it “ill-advised” for a player with even a small muscular concern.

But fans aren’t buying it — especially with Isak training alone back in England.

Isak was also left out of the squad for the friendly against Celtic, with manager Eddie Howe saying the striker was affected by transfer talk. That move only added fuel to the fire.

Now it appears the “injury” may have been a polite cover while talks over his future continued quietly in the background.

Can Liverpool sign Alexander Isak this summer?

Liverpool would love to land Isak — and they’ve got the funds. Reports (via Ian Doyle of Liverpool Echo) suggest the Reds are willing to go as high as £130 million.

But Newcastle are standing firm. With his contract running until 2028, they’re not under pressure to sell.

Talks over a new deal have also stalled. Isak has turned down an improved contract, believed to be worth around £300,000 per week. That’s another sign he’s looking elsewhere.

This one’s not over yet — but it’s no longer just a rumour either.
