There’s an old saying at Anfield — once a Red, always a Red. But for Trent Alexander-Arnold, his upcoming return in white could be met with more nerves than nostalgia.
The former Liverpool right-back is reportedly racing against time to recover from a hamstring injury that halted his early days at Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old picked up the problem just minutes into Madrid’s clash with Marseille in the Champions League last month. Since then, he’s been out of action — and his absence has stirred both concern in Spain and curiosity back home on Merseyside.
Trent’s move to Real Madrid during the summer raised eyebrows across Europe. Leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, he sought a “fresh challenge” under former Red Xabi Alonso.
But his start hasn’t gone smoothly. Limited minutes in La Liga, competition from Dani Carvajal, and now an untimely injury have made life tough for the Englishman.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, “Trent Alexander-Arnold set to return from injury in time to face Liverpool.” The report added that “the prospect of him being able to face his former team at Anfield on November 4 is now realistic.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return could divide Anfield
If his recovery stays on track, Trent could make his comeback in El Clásico against Barcelona on October 26 — just before returning to Anfield for what’s expected to be an emotionally charged night.
The tension lies not only in the reunion but also in the manner of his exit. Having turned down a new deal with Liverpool, the local lad’s decision didn’t sit well with some supporters. Now, a potential return as a Real Madrid player could test those bonds.
But football has a way of writing poetic scripts. For a player once hailed as Liverpool’s creative engine, walking out of the Anfield tunnel again — this time in Madrid white — could be one of the season’s defining moments.
