According to the latest reports the talks between Liverpool and Newcastle for the double deal involving Joe Gomez and Anthony Gordon were so advanced that payment structure were discussed.

The news of the double deal had emerged earlier this week bit it did not reveal how advanced the talks were.

Joe Gomez Still Open To Leave Liverpool?

James Pearce has revealed today in The Athletic of how close Gomez was of joining Newcastle in late June. Newcastle and LFC also discussed the payment structure in late June.

According to Pearce, Liverpool agreed to sell Joe Gomez for £45 million if Anthony Gordon came to Anfield for £75million. They were two separate deals but dependent on each other.

Newcastle wanted the bulk amount to comply with Premier League’s profit and Sustainability Rules before deadline.

Pearce also revealed that the England camp had received enquiries about holding medicals for Gomez and Gordon.

Joe Gomez will consider options, but Liverpool will not push for his exit from the club. He is the longest serving player at the club at the moment.

The highly versatile Joe Gomez was an important part of the squad last season. He showed his capability to play anywhere in the back-line including at left-back.

If Liverpool lose Joe Gomez, signing a defender is a must as we cannot just rely on Konate, Quansah, Van Den Berg in a really busy season.
